چکیده

We have previously modeled the Doctrine of Double Effect (DDE) in a formal computational logic [1]. While DDE can account for a large range of human behavior in moral dilemmas (situations in which all available actions have positive and negative effects), the doctrines have to be further extended to account for how humans behave (and ought to behave). One such extension has produced a version of DDE that can model self-sacrifice [2]. We now extend these models with support for emotional content that can mix with other cognitive states such as belief and intention used in prior models of DDE. A simple version of DDE stipulates that agents can perform the only available action in a dilemma iff (i) the positive effects are much larger than the negative effects; (ii) the agent does not intend any negative effect but intends some of the positive effects; (iii) none of the negative effects are used to cause any of the positive effects; and (iv) the action is not forbidden. Emotions play an important role in that they themselves can be considered to be positive and negative effects. Agents can also use emotions to shape their desires and intentions. Our new model takes into account the above two dynamics. بررسی آموزه‌ی اثر دوگانه و نقش قصد در قضاوت اخلاقی

Ethical research and theories assign great importance to the role of intention in passing moral judgments about individuals’ actions. The doctrine of double effect is among ethical disciplines that differentiate between controversial medical situations such as end of life care or abortion, and intentional, premeditated damage, in that they consider the former impermissible and the latter permis...

Optimal Control of Service Rate in a Service Center with Lapse (Research Note)

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of a particular control doctrine applied to the service mechanism of a queuing process with lapse. It is assumed that the service discipline is FCFS (first come, first served), arrival process is Poisson, service time distribution is exponential, service process is one phase and the capacity is infinite. It is also assumed that the customer may...

Effect of Different Turbine-generator Shaft Models on the Subsynchronous Resonance Phenomenon in the Double Cage Induction Generator Based Wind Farm

This paper focuses on the turbine-generator shaft models of double-cage Induction Generator (IG) based wind farm and its influence on the sub-synchronous resonance phenomenon. For this purpose, six different shaft models as 6-mass, 4-mass, 3-mass I, 3-mass II, 2-mass and 1-mass models are considered for double-cage IG wind-turbine. By using the linear modal analysis method, the effects of the d...

Effect of tree roots on water infiltration rate into the soil

ABSTRACT- To study the effect of tree roots on increasing water infiltration in soil and also to determine and assess the coefficients of different infiltration models, some infiltration tests were performed in three tree plantation areas in Badjgah, Fars province with different soil textures (clay loam for pear plantation, sandy loam for grape plantation, loamy sand for pine trees). In each pl...
